During her time on the JET Programme as an ALT, Kayla lived on Iki Island in Nagasaki Prefecture from 2016-2019. For three years, she was deeply involved in her school communities through English clubs, debates, recording audiobooks, and the school band, while also immersing herself in local culture through taiko, koto, shodō, sadō, kimono, ikebana, and exploring Iki’s rich history.

Since returning to Canada, Kayla has continued teaching as an online and occasional educator, remained active within the JETAA community, and regularly participates in Japanese cultural events across the GTA. A passionate writer, she draws on her time in Japan to inspire the characters and worlds of her forthcoming novel series.

Jenna has been an active and dedicated member of JETAA Toronto since returning from Japan in 2021. She first joined as an Event Planner, later serving two years as Co-Chair, and continues to support the organization as a Senpai Adviser. From 2018 to 2021, Jenna worked as an ALT in Saitama. She is passionate about event planning and dancing, and values how her involvement with JETAA Toronto has fostered meaningful connections and opened doors to new career opportunities.

Karlo was an ALT in Saitama from 2018-2023. JET gave him an unforgettable opportunity to teach and travel, something he still does today. Having made some of most meaningful experiences and friendships on JET, he wants to give back to the community through JETAA.

Liam Duffy
Fukushima-ken, 2017-2021

During his time on JET Programme in rural Fukushima, Liam embraced his role as part of the community – first in monthly volunteer days reclaiming areas affected by the 2011 Earthquake through the Minamisoma Volunteer Center, and eventually as volunteer coordinator for Fukushima AJET. These days, Liam serves as assistant manager of the Japan National Tourism Organization’s Canadian office. He continues to actively network throughout Toronto’s Japanese & Japanese Canadian community, serving as contact point between the local JETAA and various cultural organizations.
