In order to help us plan the upcoming JETAA Toronto Career Roundtable on Friday, January 18th, 2019 themed “New Year; New You!” we would appreciate it if you could give us some feedback on your background and topics you may be interested in learning more about. The 6th annual JETAA Career Round Table is coming up this January. With support from the Consulate General of Japan in Toronto and the Japan Foundation Toronto, the event is designed in two parts. In the beginning of the evening, professionals from various sectors will speak to their respective fields. This will be followed by a networking reception to further engage with industry representatives. The purpose of the event is to have a chance for newly returned JET Programme participants, JETAA who are hoping to expand their networks and JETAA members who would like to learn more about and explore other industries. Event Recap: PEC Interchapter Event

On Saturday, October 26th we held our third annual Interchapter event with JETAA Ottawa, this time heading out to wine country in Prince Edward County. Our merry group of fifteen included thirteen alumni and two potential alumni, plus a special guest–the President of JETAA Quebec/Atlantique, making this a three-chapter event! (more…)

Event Recap: Mokuhanga Workshop

The 2nd JETAA Mokuhanga Workshop was held on the evening of Friday, August 10th and for most of the day on Saturday, August 11th.

Mokuhanga is a form of woodblock printmaking, using highly pigmented water-based inks. One of the most symbolic images of Japanese art is actually a mokuhanga print: “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Hokusai. The form was extremely popular  during the Edo era where Ukiyo-e prints flourished as art for the masses. Today, this form of woodblock printmaking is practiced around the world, but the methods and materials used remain steeped in Japanese tradition. Our artist instructor, Elizabeth Forrest, is a prominent mokuhanga artist and instructor in Toronto and has over 20 years printing experience with mokuhanga masters based in Kyoto.  (more…)
