Report – Kiln You Softly Weekend ForClay – Annual Ceramics Workshops

On the weekend of November 19 – 20, the wonderful ladies at Secret Teatime ceramics studio, Helen Kong and Sorlie Maddox, hosted three workshops for JETAA. All three of the much-anticipated ceramics workshops in “Kiln You Softly Weekend ForClay” were well attended. A total of 13 JETAA members participated in the 3 workshops. The workshops on offer were Bowls & Cups, Slab Plates and Teapots. The Bowls & Cups workshop is the longtime favourite and filled up quickly (reserve a spot as soon as you can if you are interested next year).

JETAA Toronto’s First Roadtrip to the Boston Career Forum 11/18-2016!

Toronto strives to provide great career-related events for our members in addition to the many top-notch social and cultural events we already offer. As part of this evolution, we sent our first envoy to the Boston Career Forum, the world’s largest Japanese-English bilingual career fair. The 3-day road trip was a ton of fun and was a great success from a career development standpoint as well.

Report: Returners’ Pub Night

On the first evening of October, JETAA Toronto welcomed back newly returned JETs at the Duke of York. October rain had washed the streets of the Annex and it was a chilly night. Yet we were all settled inside, cozy and comfortable, chattering away about Japan and our beautiful memories there.

Return to a Strange Land: Welcoming Back the 2016 Returning JETs

JETAA hosted the 2016 Re-Entry Conference on Saturday October 22nd. This conference is much like the reverse of our annual Pre-Departure Orientation Toronto (PDOT). At PDOT, we prepare new JET Programme participants for the possible culture shock of moving to Japan, with all of its new challenges. At the Re-Entry Conference, we help JETs with the often-unexpected reverse culture shock of returning to a place you’ve always thought of as your home.

Report – Axe Throwing 2016

On Saturday September 24th, JETAA returned to BATL in the docklands for our third annual axe throwing tournament. Although we lacked plaid shirts and flannel, we tried our best to tap into our inner lumberjack, and chuck axes at wooden targets in a way that would make a proper woodsperson proud.

We had 16 JETs and JET friends turn up for the event, with more than half of the attendees being new to the sport of axe throwing.
