Welcome back returning JETs!

On October 24th, in partnership with the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto, JETAA Toronto hosted our annual Re-Entry Conference. Aiming to re-integrate newly returned JET participants into Canadian life, a series of informational and advisory sessions were facilitated by sempai JETAA members. Topics included Japanese restaurants and shopping in Toronto, dealing with reverse culture shock, resume and interview skills, as well as tactics for finding volunteer and employment opportunities.

The conference gave the participants a great motive to share their stories from Japan, and their experience in returning to Toronto. It also provided an opportunity for them to learn more about the Japanese community here in the GTA and about JETAA Toronto.

In the early evening, following the conference, The Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto graciously hosted a reception for the JET returnees. The Consulate-General welcomed delegates, JETAA members, and members of the Japanese-Canadian community to further encourage bilateral networking and foster community connections. The reception provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the JET experience, socialize over sushi, and strengthen the bonds between both countries.

Thank you to all the volunteers, speakers, guests, and The Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto for offering the space for us to host the conference and for organizing a welcome back reception. We wish the new JET returnees all the success in their upcoming endeavours!
