Summer Fun Stand Up Paddleboarding with JETAA

On Sunday, August 18, a gaggle of JETs (yeah, like geese!) and some friends went to the Toronto Island to try stand up paddleboarding. We were 14-strong, and most trying SUP for the very first time.

The instructors at Toronto Island SUP were excellent. After a quick lesson, we paddled along the river and out into the open waters, looking across to Toronto’s skyscrapers. As you can see from the photos, it was a breathtaking view. A couple of us went for a swim off our boards, some maybe not-so-intentionally — we’re looking at you, Sabrina.

We explored around the island on water, seeing the stunning wildlife, including herons and baby swans, along the way. Once everyone got really comfortable on the boards, we had a friendly SUP race along the river. Congrats to the winners!

We’re happy to report that we had a JET alum from the US join us for the event too. Welcome to Canada, eh?

We finished off the evening with more swimming at Ward’s Island Beach and nijikai at the Island Café.

With such a successful event, we’ll definitely be bringing it back next summer. If you didn’t get a chance to join us this year, hope to see you next time. In the meantime
