JETAA Japanese Lessons – Fall 2016 Edition

JETAA Toronto is excited to announce this year’s edition of Japanese lessons! Come one, come all!

They will be taught once again by the excellent Matsumoto-Sensei and the focus will be on conversational Japanese.

This year we are also adding a workshop element to the latter half of some of the classes to learn how to make Japanese Etegami (Illustrated postcard) and Nengajo (Japanese New year’s cards).

You will be introduced to basic design and art-making principles, Japanese motifs and symbols and also be able to hone some practical art making skills.

Previous art/drawing/painting experience is not needed, just come with an open mind and creative spirit and be ready to have fun.

By the end of the classes, you will have created your own art hanko (carved eraser), experimented with some water based paints and sumi ink and know the specialized vocabulary for etegami and nengajo.

You’ll be ready to send some of your own handmade picture post-cards to your friends and family in Canada or abroad in Japan just in time for the holidays.
