JETAA Tea Ceremony Event Report

Learning the Ways of Japanese Tea

Sick of your everyday run of the mill Tim Horton’s Orange Pekoe? How about try something a little more rich and steeped with over 900 years of tradition?

On March 21st, friends and members of JETAA had the chance to do just that, by attending a Japanese Tea Ceremony here in Toronto. The ceremony was presented by the Discover Japan Program of the JCCC with the help of four knowledgeable teachers trained in the art and traditions of Sadou: Yamamoto-Sensei, Suzuki-Sensei, Tsugita-Sensei, and Ota-Sensei. Together they were able to help educate us in the proper techniques associated with drinking tea à la Japonais.

JETAA Midnight Curling Report

JETAA Toronto’s second annual curling event held Saturday, February 16th, 2013, was yet again a sweeping success as thirty-odd participants took to the ice at High Park Curling Club for a rockin’ evening! No puns intended.

Speaker Series Report

From Eri Asai's

On December 5, JETAA was pleased to invite Eri Asai to come to the Japan Foundation to speak about her experiences as a Japanese film maker in Canada.

Ms. Asai screened two short films and discussed her experiences in a creative field while juggling the roles of wife, mother of two, immigrant and university student.

The first film presented, Momiji, was a short film based on her experiences as a newcomer to Canada. Screened at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival in November, Momiji is a window in the mind of the director and her experiences raising a family in a new country. The second documentary, Stray Dogs, is a look at a romantic relationship in progress.

Post-Hanami Picnic

Hanami

On Sunday, May 6th, 2012, members of JETAA Toronto, JAVA, and U of T’s JCSA gathered at High Park for the 6th annual Hanami Picnic. Unfortunately, this year’s weather had been a little warmer than usual in the earlier spring months and the cherry blossoms bloomed weeks ahead of its scheduled time. However, that didn’t stop everyone from enjoying the beautiful weather and turning the event into a Post-Hanami Picnic instead.
