A Boat Cruise To Remember

July 10th was a perfect summer evening to sail by the Toronto skyline. That’s exactly what dozens of JETAA members did along with members of JAVA and CJS, coming together for an awesome summer boat cruise. The sold out evening with over 250 Canadian and Japanese participants included two floors of talented DJs and well stocked bars.

The photo-worthy sunset over the lake perfectly complimented the bright yukatas that dotted the boat.

Hanami In High Park A Success!

The breathtaking cherry blossoms and beautiful weather were in perfect harmony for JETAA Toronto’s 5th Annual Hanami Picnic in High Park on Saturday, May 7th. Thanks to the support of members from U of T’s JCSA and JAVA, there were over 150 people in attendance throughout the day.

Our group arrived early enough to lay down the large blue tarps and claim our territory in what was undoubtedly one of the best spots in High Park for prime cherry blossom viewing. Beneath the picturesque flowers, everyone enjoyed a potluck-style meal, which featured an array of food, drinks and popular Japanese snacks.

Rock Climbing on a Rainy Saturday

On Saturday, April 16, 13 brave JETAA members and friends set out in the pouring rain to Toronto Rock Climbing Academy for a three-hour climbing session.

With most of the group having never climbed before, the morning started with a beginner lesson in harnesses, knot-tying, carabiners, GRIGRIs and proper belay form.

Art & Photo Show A Roaring Success

On Saturday, March 5th, our steaming hot art show was a blazing success at the Gladstone Art Bar. Bellies full of wine and music in our limbs, things really heated up as the room was filled to the brim with JET alumni and friends of JET alike. We had close to 70 people in attendance, presenting a terrific opportunity to see some old faces and make new friends.

JETs Hit The Slopes – And Survive!

Winter’s gifts might seem hard to appreciate sometimes in Toronto, but strap a plank or two on your feet and it changes everything!

A group of JETAA members and friends found that you don’t have to travel to the Japanese Alps for some excellent skiing and boarding at our first ever JETAA Ski Trip event in February.

Hiroshima Survivor Englightens and Inspires at JETAA Event

It was an emotional and inspirational day for those who made it to the Japan Information Centre on November 27 to hear Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor Setsuko Thurlow speak.


Diminutive, and eloquently spoken, Mrs Thurlow treated the crowd to a screening of the 2009 documentary, “Flashes Of Hope”, in which she and 102 other Hibakusha travelled for four months on the Peace Boat to share their first-hand accounts and their desire to never again see nuclear war on this planet.
